Difference between Pressure Relief Valves and Pressure Safety Valves

A pressure relief valve is one that is used to limit the pressure in a system within a specific set level. However, a pressure safety valve actuates automatically to release excessive pressure. Relief valve opens only when the pressure reaches the specific set pressure limit and is usually operated by an operator. It does not require operator assistance to release excessive pressure.

The similarity between the pressure relief valve and the safety valve is that they both are spring-loaded valves. Usually, the valve is forced shut by the spring. When the pressure increases, the force of the spring has overcome that forces the valve to open.

Classification of the Pressure Relief Valves

Pressure Relief Valves are essential for controlling the flow rate of fluid, thereby facilitating the practical use of the system and providing additional safety to pressurized vessels or systems. There are three types of Pressure relief Valves.

  • Safety valves: – A pressure valve that is used with compressible gases, steam, and air services.
  • Relief valve: –  A valve that is used in a hydraulic system as pressure over sill devices. They can further be into adjustable relief valves and safety relief valves. They are usually used in naval ships for generating thermal electricity.
  • Safety Relief valve: – A valve that is used either for liquid or compressible fluids in a pressurized vessel is called a safety relief valve. These are generally used in boilers.

Classification of Safety Relief Valves

  • Conventional(spring-loaded):- The main components of traditional spring-loaded safety relief valve are the nozzle, seat disc, disc holder, bonnet, spring, set pressure adjusting screw, body, and blowdown adjustment ring.
  • Pilot operated:-  The main component of pilot-operated hydraulic valve is inlet from the system, orifice, main spool spring, dart, pilot spring, adjustment screw, pilot drain, the skirt of the spool, and
  • Balanced bellows:-  The essential components of Balanced bellows relief valve are nozzle, body, adjusting ring, disk, seating surface, bellows, balanced piston, bonnet, spring, adjusting screw, stem, and cap.

SKG Pneumatics is the best supplier of industrial valves in Delhi. The company has been into pneumatic industries for several years. The company manufactures different types of relief and safety valves that can be used in the industrial production unit. The pressure safety relief valve can prevent damage to property, life, and environment to a great extent and shall be used in every industry for additional safety. The pressure relief valves can be used in pressurized vessels, boiler, and other pressurized systems.

Pressure Reducing Valves in Hydraulic system

Valves are considered to be the essential components in the hydraulic system. A valve that maintains lower pressures in the hydraulic system is called a pressure-reducing valve. Valves are considered to be the crucial components in the hydraulic system. A valve that maintains lower pressures in the hydraulic system is called a pressure-reducing valve. It determines the upstream main system pressures. A pressure-reducing valve is an open, two-way valve that allows system pressure fluid to flow it until a set pressure is achieved downstream. Pressure reducing valves then shifts to throttle flow into the branch. SKG Pneumatics is the best pneumatic company that is the largest suppliers of industrial valves in Delhi.

Basic components of Pressure reducing valves

The main components of pressure reducing valves include Adjusting screw, Adjusting spring, Diaphragm, Inlet port, Valve Disk, Valve stem and Outlet port.

Difference between pressure safety valve and pressure relief valve

Sometimes people confuse with similar terms pressure safety valves and pressure relief valves. Even though pressure safety valve or pressure relief valve sounds identical but they are different altogether. The difference is that pressure safety valves have a manual lever to activate the valve in case of emergency. However, most Pressure relief valves are spring operated.

Hydraulic pressure control using Pressure release valve

The pressure at which the valve begins to open is called crackling pressure of the valve. However, the pressure at which the relief valve is completely open is full flow pressure. The difference between the crackling pressure and flow pressure is called pressure override.

There is always a risk to life, property and environment while using a hydraulic system. That is why the safety relief valve is required to protect the hydraulic system against overpressure so that the system does not fail.

Classification of the safety relief valve

A type of valve which opens and closes through valve disc due to increase and decrease of pressure, thereby controlling the discharge is called safety valve. They are classified into

  • Low Lift Safety Relief Valve
  • Full Lift Safety Relief Valve
  • Full Bore Safety Relief Valve

SKG Pneumatics is the leading pressure control valve suppliers in IndiaThe company manufactures different types of valves that are used for several purposes. It is also the largest suppliers of industrial valves in Delhi. The company has been manufacturing valves of various types for decades. Importance of Check Valves in Hydraulic Systems

A check valve is a mechanical device that is used to prevent backflow in a piping system. In other words, check valves obstruct the fluid flow in one direction and enables unobstructed flow in the opposite direction. The check valve is also commonly known as a non-return valve (NRV) or a one-way valve.

Check valves have two openings in the body, one for the entry of the fluid and another for an exit. Check valves are largely used in household items, however, they also serve a great purpose in controlling the direction of fluid flow in hydraulic systems. Since there are too many check valve suppliers in India, you need to find the one who provides industrial quality check valves.

What is a Hydraulic System?

Most industries require a controlled application of force and these operations are usually carried out using electrical or fuel-based machines as a prime mover. However, specially designed enclosed fluid systems can also provide controlled motion and force to the substances. These systems are capable of providing both linear as well as rotary motion and it also allows us to apply high magnitude controlled force. This kind of enclosed fluid-based system that uses pressurized incompressible liquids as transmission media is known as a hydraulic system.

What are Hydraulic Control Valves?

A hydraulic control valve is a device that has the capability to change the opening degree of the fluid flow path. Additionally, control valves are also used to regulate the speed of the fluid flow to the motors and cylinders.

Most common Hydraulic control valves types

  • Directional control valves
  • Pressure control valves
  • Flow control valves

These hydraulic valves can be controlled by manual, mechanical, hydraulic, electric, electro-hydraulic, pneumatic, and input control, on or off fluid flow channels.

What is the importance of check valves in Hydraulic Systems?

Check valves serve a variety of purposes in hydraulic systems. It is important because:

  • It blocks pressure spikes
  • Prevents oil lines from draining
  • Blocks oil flow from the accumulator
  • Prevents oil flow from the online pump to the offline pump

Check valves help you prevent backflow in a hydraulic system while control valves help you regulate the speed of the fluid flow in the hydraulic system. With all the different types of hydraulic valves, you need to choose the right one in order to get the job done.

SKG Pneumatics INC is the top industrial valve suppliers in India. They not only supply check valves, but they also supply other types of industrial valves including control valves. If you’re looking for high resistant valves, then you’re at the right place. Contact us for more information.

Hydraulic Valves – Types and Components

A mechanical device that controls the flow of the liquid, usually by opening and closing is referred to as a valve. The primary purpose of a hydraulic valve is to direct the flow of a liquid medium that will move actuators and loads through the hydraulic system. There are various types of hydraulic valves and it is important to choose the right one to get the best results.

What are the different types of hydraulic valves?

Hydraulic valves come in a variety of sizes and with different mounting styles. There are three major categories of hydraulic valves namely directional control valves, pressure control valves and flow control valves.

Directional Control Valves

The primary purpose of a directional control valve is to control the direction of the fluid flow. The three functions performed by directional control valves include stopping the fluid flow, allowing the fluid flow, and changing the direction of the fluid flow.

There are five types of directional control valves:

  • Check valves
  • Shuttle valves
  • Two-way valves
  • Threeway valves
  • Fourway valves

Pressure Control Valves

A pressure control valve helps in maintaining a set pressure in the hydraulic system. Pressure control valves are used mainly in industries where keeping system pressure below a desired upper limit is crucial such as oil and gas industries.

There are types of pressure control valves:

  • Relief valves
  • Constant pressure reducing valves
  • Sequence valves
  • Counterbalance valves
  • Over center valves
  • Unloading valves

Flow Control Valves

Flow control valves regulate the flow rate at the throttling point by increasing or decreasing the opening of a hydraulic circuit. The flow rate helps in determining the rate of energy transfer at any given pressure.

There are five most common types of flow control valves:

Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning System (HVAC)

Since all the mechanical systems that provide thermal comfort and air quality in a room/indoor area are interconnected, they are often grouped together and are called HVAC systems. It includes central air conditioners, heat pumps, boilers, furnaces, rooftop units, chillers, and packaged units.

HVAC valves are used to control flow in pipes. Major components of an HVAC system such as water chiller, cooling water pumps, air handling units, and fan coil units use valves to control the flow of water, gas, and air.

What is HVAC System?

HVAC is the acronym for Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning. HVAC refers to the various systems that are used along with heating and cooling buildings (both commercial and residential). An HVAC system is responsible for keeping you fresh and cool in summer and making you feel warm and cosy in winter. Apart from just keeping a place warm or cool, HVAC systems are also responsible for improving indoor air quality while providing comfort to everyone inside the building.

What are the different types of valves used in HVAC System?

Plug valves (seat valves), ball valves, and butterfly valves are the most common types of valves used in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system. Other valves used in HVAC system include knife gate valves, diaphragm valves, and gate valves.

Heating and cooling Hydronics-triple duty valves acts as a check valve, shut-off valve, and balancing valve all at the same time. Automatic flow limiting valves are used to vary the speed pumping systems that control the flow of the water in HVAC systems while automatic temperature control valves are used to reduce the temperature of the water in the domestic hot water pipe.

A pressure reducing valve is used to reduce the pressure of the water in the HVAC hydronic loop while circuit setter valves are used to maintain a set amount of flow through a piping loop.

HVAC systems not only regulate the temperature of the indoor space but also maintain the indoor air quality. However, it is important to use high-quality industrial valves in order to get the best results.

SKG PNEUMATICS INC is the leading industrial valve suppliers in India. In fact, all their valves go through multiple ruggedness-testing procedures to ensure that their customers receive the best industrial valves.

Applications and Working process of Control Valve

A valve is a device that regulates the fluid flow as well as the pressure within a system or process. Unlike on-off valves, a control valve is used to regulate the fluid flow by stopping and starting the fluid flow as per the direction is given by the controller.

Control Valve

Control valves consist of three main parts: the valve, the actuator, and the controller. Various components of the Actuator include rain cap, eye bolt, diaphragm, spring, actuator stem, diaphragm case, scale plate, stem connector, and yoke.

The components of body part include packing flange, packing follower, yoke claim nut, gland packing, valve stem, bonnet, stud bolt and nut, gasket, guide ring, guide bushing, valve plug, seat ring, valve body, trim set, and positioner.

Though the primary purpose of a control valve is to regulate the fluid flow, there are two main forms of action i.e. the sliding stem and the rotary action. The most common type of control valves in the sliding stem include globe valve, angle body valve, and angle seat piston valve while the rotary action includes a butterfly valve and ball valve.

Why Control Valves are Used?

Control valves are used for various purposes in the industrial, engineering, manufacturing, and scientific communities. The primary purpose of a control valve is to regulate the rate of the fluid flow by varying the size of the flow passage. Control valves are most commonly used for consequential control of process quantities including pressure, temperature, and the liquid level.

How do Control Valves work?

With the help of opening and closing internal passages, control valves regulate the fluid flow. Control valves form a control loop which is then used by a controller to send signals. Control valves respond to these signals and adjust the internal openings accordingly.

Control valves use the actuator to move the valve stem. Usually, it is either air (pneumatically) or electrically driven. The pressure between the inlet and outlet decides the rate of flow through the valve.

In order to reduce the fluid flow, the valve is closed, which results in more back-pressure and increases the difference between the inlet and outlet pressures.

Control valves help in controlling the fluid flow and are used in various industries including pipeline, oil & gas, food & beverage, the biopharma industry, and marine industry.

SKG PNEUMATICS INC is one of the leading trader & dealers of all kinds of industrial products. We have a complete range of balancing valves according to their size, pressure ratings, operating temperature, and fluid characters including on-site commissioning for optimum performance.

What is Balancing Valve?

The valves that are used in the central heating and cooling systems based on the flow of the water are termed as Balancing Valves. Balancing is a practical technique for setting systems to meet design requirements. It helps overcome a wide range of system conditions where pipe sizing and pipe configurations alone cannot set a system in balance. The latest flow technology is used by these valves and they also ensure that if there is no change in the pressure within the system then the design flow rate of the system will be achieved at all times. The rate of the design flow is determined by the velocity of the water flow in the tube of the coils. The minimum flow is 1.5 ft / s (0.46 m / s) and the maximum flow is 12 ft / s (3.7 m / s).

We have a range of Balancing Valves from Advance Valves

Balancing Valves – Screwed

When the system is unbalanced, water takes the easiest path through the system where the resistance is lowest and as per the result of the terminal units, radiators, fan coils, air handling units, chilled beams and radiant panels that are closest to the pump are provided with excess water flow. Units that are further away from the pump, seek insufficient flow. When balancing a system, flow distribution is changed so that critical circuits can be provided with the required flow. When the system is balanced, water flow can be set to design the requirements of all parts of the circuits. This results in good thermal comfort and no unnecessary energy consumption. Screwed balancing valves are the efficient operation of control devices to achieve energy savings, Room temperatures will be optimized throughout the building and lower fuel bills for the building occupier.

Balancing valves – Flanged

Flanged balancing valves help ensure that all components in a hydronic system achieve the required design flow. These valves are more accurate than screwed Balancing valves. The effect on the selection of the control by the flow system was not initially realized but flanged balancing valves are very effective for this purpose.

Applications of the balancing valves

There are numerous applications of the balancing valves. They are mostly used in boilers and HVAC chiller system to regulate the flow of liquids such as water. Creating a consistent output pressure to a system from an inconsistent input pressure from another system is the main purpose of the balancing valves. Balancing valves are also used as the heat exchangers for ensuring the optimum flow of the liquid throughout the system.

SKG PNEUMATICS INC is of the leading balancing valves manufacturers and distributor with a wide list of happy customers all around the world. It is a highly rated company which supplies balancing valves and all kinds of advance valves. It is one of the best Advance valves dealers and balancing valves suppliers around the globe. How does it work: Gate Valves

Gate valves are the most common valves found in the distribution system. Gate valves are mostly used for the on/ off control. Gate valves prevent the flow of the liquid in both directions. They are very easy to install and to maintain. Gate valves are cost-efficient and they are mostly used in petroleum industries because of their abilities to cut through liquids.

What is a Gate Valve?

A gate valve is a linear motion valve that is used to start or stop the flow of the fluid in piping. There is a gate or wedge type disk which moves perpendicular to the flow which directs the flow to stop or start. In any process plant, the gate valve has the most common use and are suitable for both above-ground and underground installations.

A gate valve is also known as a sluice valve. It is very easy to open it, one just have to lift the gate out of the path of the fluid. It does not require a wide surface; it fits in a very little space along the pipe axis. It requires a 360° surface contact between disk and seat to achieve proper sealing. A Gate valve is made up of certain parts that allow it to function properly. Valve’s body or shell is the most principle part of this particular valve which can connect the inlet and outlet pipes in a piping system.

What are the different applications of Gate Valves?

Mainly it is used for all kinds of applications and it is the best fit for all types of above ground and underground applications.

  • It is mostly used when the pressure loss is minimum and when the free bore loss is needed.
  • It can be used for numbers of fluids and it is suitable for potable water, wastewater and neutral liquids
  • The temperature is required between -20 and + 70-degree centigrade for which the velocity of the flow should be 5 m/s and up to 16 bar differential pressure.

What is the working principle of the Gate Valve?

There is a handle wheel on the top of the gate valve and when this wheel will be rotated in a clockwise direction, the steam and gate will move in the downward direction. It prevents the leakage of fluid through the valve.

When the wheel is rotated in the anti-clockwise direction, the valve will be opened and the steam and gate will move in the upward direction across the fluid. The gate valve can also be used in the semi-opened direction but the erosion of gate as fluid will strike and hence it is not recommended to open it partially.

SKG Pneumatics Inc is one of the best suppliers of all kinds of industrial valves such as Gate Valves, motorized gate valves and flanged gate valves. If you want to buy any kind of valves, then we are always at your service with our heart and soul. We are the leading suppliers of the motorized gate valves and gate valve manufacturers in India. Valve Design and Working Principle of Butterfly Valve

A butterfly valve is used to isolate or regulate the flow of a fluid. It can be used for a wide range of applications such as water supply, wastewater treatment, and fire protection, for chemical and fuel industries and many more.

Butterfly Valve Working Principle

It is based on the quick shut off principle. The disc of the valve is placed in the center of the pipe which allows a rod to go through it to an actuator, on the outer side of the valve. The disc remains parallel or perpendicular to the flow. A pressure drop is introduced by the disc upon the flow even when open.

It open or closed when the disc is rotated a quarter turn and hence it is also known as a quarter-turn valve. There is a metal disc on the rod and when the valve is closed it blocks the passageway by giving it a quarter turn. This metal disc is known as a butterfly. It is the most important component of the valve.

Butterfly valve classification

Butterfly valves are quick to open type valves used to stop, regulate and start the flow of the fluid. A gearbox type actuator is attached with large butterfly valves and a hand wheel is connected to the stem of the valve via a gearbox. The butterfly valve is classified into four types.

  • Centric Butterfly valves: Centric butterfly valves are also known as soft seated valves. They are used for low- pressure and non- critical applications in gate and ball valves. They are very cost-efficient and easy to install. Centric butterfly valves are also very lightweight.
  • Motorized butterfly valve: Motorized butterfly valves are used to control the media flowing through the pipelines of the system. By changing the position of a round disc within a pipeline, it starts operating. They are available in many different sizes and they can be fit into any type of specifications.
  • `Pre-insulated butterfly valves: Pre-insulated butterfly valves avoid the cost as well as manpower for insulating the valve after installation. They are made up of very fine quality materials. They are of very simple design and enhance durability. Pre-insulated valves have a long service life and they are crack resistance.
  • Wafer type butterfly valve: wafer type butterfly valve is very easy to install into the system but it does not work as an isolation valve. It is placed between pipe flanges and the flange bolts encircle the valve body.

Butterfly valves design

The butterfly valve comes into two designs, centric and eccentric. The only difference between these two designs is, in centric butterfly valve stem is placed in the center of the disc and disc is placed in the center of the bore. Whereas in eccentric butterfly valves, there can be more than one stem placed offset from the center.

SKG Pneumatics INC is a one-stop solution for all kinds of industrial products. If you are willing to buy any kind of valves for industrial purpose as well as home, then this place is perfect for you. SKG Pneumatics INC is one of the prominent suppliers of Industrial Equipment such as butterfly valves, motorized ball valves and many more.

The Advantages, Application & Components of Butterfly Valves

A butterfly valve considered as a regulating device which is used to shut off the flow of a fluid. It is also known as quarter turn valves because it provides 90-degree rotary motion for the stoppage. They often came in large sizes but short in length and are of the very lightweight. They possess very low torque requirements. It is used with globe and ball valves in some applications.

Advantages

Butterfly valves are the best choice for all kinds of butterfly valve requirements. These are very cost effective and the performance of the product is also very high. These valves are similar to ball valves but have a little more advantages. The dist in the butterfly valve is lighter than a ball and it requires less structural support than a ball valve. Butterfly valve does not require high maintenance and hence widely used in industrial applications. They also require a little space and it is very easy to open them.

Components

There are four main components of a butterfly valve: body, disk, stem, and seat.

1. Butterfly valve body

The body of the butterfly valve fits between two pipe flanges. It is one of the main components of the butterfly valve. Lug and wafer body design are most common among them.

2. Butterfly valve disk

The disk is used to stop the flow of the liquid. The disk of the butterfly valve has a number of variations in its design and orientation to improve the flow, sealing or torque.

3. Butterfly valve stem

It is available in two design one- piece shaft or two-piece design. For the proficient selection of the material with respect to its cost as well as mechanical properties, it is confined from the media.

4. Butterfly valve seat

It provides the shutoff between the disk edge and the seat. Elastomers and polymers are used to make the seat of the butterfly valve. It may be bonded with the body or may be locked in.

Applications

Some of the common applications of the butterfly valve are:

On/ off isolation, Dead- end service, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system, Industrial process piping, Municipal raw water intake, Municipal chlorinated water systems (2000 ppm), Municipal feed water and reservoir, throttling and process control, full vacuum, blower installations.
